Last Tango in the Guggenheim

Members of the dance company Ballet Hispánico weren’t the only ones who swirled amid the art in the museum’s rotunda during a recent presentation and tango class.

ImageAn illustration shows five people watching something closely, two of them pointing their phones at it. The text reads: “The spiraling interior of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum was a fitting place for the dance company Ballet Hispánico to demonstrate ballet-inspired tango choreography and teach visitors some moves. The event was part of the museum’s Works & Process series, juxtaposing the dance with an exhibition on the abstract art movement Orphism. Attendees tangoed in the rotunda, circled by paintings and spectators who hadn’t worked up the nerve to join them on the floor.”
