Jason Momoa, Andrew Koji, Noah Centineo and Roman Reigns are in early talks to star in Street Fighter for Legendary Entertainment, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
Based on the popular Street Fighter video game, the project is a partnership with Capcom and has not yet announced its cast. But it’s understood Momoa, Koji, Centineo and Reigns are circling the adaptation in early negotiations.
Kitao Sakurai, best known for writing, directing and exec producing The Eric Andre Show, was earlier announced to direct the adaptation. Capcom is deeply involved with the project, with Legendary co-developing and co-producing alongside the video game developer and publisher. The film has a March 20, 2026 release date from Sony.
One of the more enduring fighting video game franchises of all time, the series began life with the 1987 arcade game Street Fighter, and set a high watermark for arcade fighting games with Street Fighter II. The game, released in 1991, was the first to offer a choice of characters and fighting techniques, revolutionizing one-on-one play. Street Fighter 6, the latest game in the franchise, was released in June 2023 and won the award for best fighting game at the 2023 Game Awards.
A previous incarnation of the Street Fighter was set with Danny and Michael Philippou, the Australian twin filmmaker duo behind horror hit Talk to Me. A feature adaptation named Street Fighter hit theaters in 1994 and starred Jean-Claude Van Damme as Guile, Raúl Juliá as M. Bison, and Ming-Na Wen as Chun-Li. In 2009, 20th Century Fox released Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li.
Hollywood has seen the value in video game adaptations following the recent successes of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. Warner Bros. and Legendary’s A Minecraft Movie hits theaters next month.
Deadline was first to report on the cast talks for Street Fighter.
