Kamala Harris made her Met Gala debut on Monday night.
The former vice president of the United States, who has maintained a relatively low profile since being defeated in November’s presidential election by Donald Trump, stepped out in style on fashion’s biggest night at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art.
In official images released by Off-White, Harris is pictured wearing a black-and-cream gown designed by the house’s creative director IB Kamara. The set of pictures features Harris standing alone in the regal creation, as well as greeting Kamara and posing with the designer and her husband, Doug Emhoff.
Off-White also released a statement from Kamara about his inspiration for the dress, a black and cream cady silk dress featuring a silk scarf and dramatic sleeve. “The precise simplicity of this black and cream look for Kamala D. Harris complements her own strength and confidence, two qualities I consider to be the core of dandyism,” Kamara explained.
The Met Gala serves as the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual marquee fundraiser. This year’s installment celebrates the Costume Institute’s spring fashion exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which draws inspiration from Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The evening’s theme, given to guests and stylists as a way to interpret the dress code, was “Tailored for you.” Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky and Pharrell Williams are the 2025 co-chairs alongside Vogue’s Anna Wintour and honorary chair LeBron James (who pulled out last minute, citing a knee injury).
