Paul Feig (Bridesmaids, Freaks and Geeks) and his TV partner Laura Fischer have signed a multiyear first-look deal with the Warner Bros. Television Group, marking his first deal with the Warner Bros. studio. The news comes exactly three weeks after Feig inked a first-look film deal with Lionsgate, which is where he previously had a similar deal for television.
Feig will develop and create original programming in all genres — live-action scripted, unscripted, animation — to be produced through his Feigco Entertainment production company for all platforms. Those platforms include HBO and Max, as well has external streaming services and broadcast networks.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“I’ve long been a fan of Warner Bros. Television Group because of their very diverse and far-reaching slate of quality TV programming,” Feig said. “So, it’s an absolute honor for Laura Fischer and me to be joining forces with Clancy, Parul and Adrienne to create new and innovative shows to entertain viewers in a time when we all desperately need some great escapist fare. Long live WBTVG!”
Clearly, he’s into it. (And is also already on a first-name basis with Clancy Collins White, president of Creative Affairs; Parul Agrawal, senior vice president & head of Drama Development; and Adrienne Turner, executive vice president & head of Comedy Development.)
Feig’s TV portfolio includes the creation of Freaks and Geeks; he wrote six of the show’s 18 episodes, two of which were nominated for Outstanding Writing — Comedy at the Emmys. Feig co-executive produced and directed more than a dozen episodes of The Office, winning a Directors Guild Award and earning another Emmy nomination (for directing; Feig also shared in an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Comedy Series). Feig also executive produced musical comedy-drama series Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist; he received yet another Emmy nomination for Outstanding Television Movie for the Zoey’s Extraordinary Christmas special. Feig directed multiple episodes of Arrested Development, Nurse Jackie, Weeds, and Welcome to Flatch; he also executive produced Love Life and Minx.
As good as all of that is, Feig is still primarily known for his filmmaking. He directed Bridesmaids, The Heat, Ghostbusters (2016) and Spy. More recently, Feig directed and produced Another Simple Favor, the sequel to the 2018 thriller A Simple Favor. The Anna Kendrick/Blake Lively film premiered earlier this year at South by Southwest and will debut May 1 on Amazon’s Prime Video. Feig also recently directed and produced The Housemaid, a film based on the best-selling novel by Freida McFadden, for Lionsgate. That one, starring Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried and Brandon Sklenar, is a theatrical release set for Christmas Day 2025. Feig, who is represented by CAA and Sloane, Offer and Weber & Dern, also produced The Peanuts Movie.
Feig’s Feigco Entertainment was founded by Feig and Fischer in 2013.
